Product Information

A new Workhorse reborn with a 12-fret design. Since the 1930s, Gibson’s full-size, round-shoulder acoustics have shaped the sound of American music, becoming some of the most frequently recorded acoustic guitars thanks to their rich warmth, expressive character, and remarkable balance across every note. Among these celebrated instruments, the J-45™ has earned iconic status. First released in 1942, it quickly became known as the “Workhorse” for its straightforward design, understated looks, and enduring presence on stages and in studios around the world.

The J-45 Century 12-Fret carries the familiar character players love while introducing a 12-fret neck-to-body joint in place of the traditional 14-fret configuration. This design shortens the neck and shifts the bridge plate closer to the widest part of the top, allowing the soundboard to move more freely. The result is a warm, punchy, resonant voice with excellent responsiveness, particularly suited to fingerstyle playing and lighter picking dynamics.

Part of the Century Collection celebrating 100 years of Gibson flat-top craftsmanship, the J-45 Century 12-Fret pairs a mahogany body with a Sitka spruce top, outlined in single-ply cream binding. The mahogany neck features a SlimTaper™ 12-Fret profile and is joined to the body using a compound dovetail joint secured with hot hide glue. A rosewood fingerboard carries 19 frets and simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays.

Vintage-inspired details include open-back Golden Age strap tuners with cream buttons, an early-1900s Gibson script logo decal, and a sloped rectangle closed-slot rosewood bridge reminiscent of early J-45 models. A bone nut and saddle, TUSQ® bridge pins, and a hand-sprayed satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish complete the build. Each instrument ships in a premium Century Collection tweed hardshell case and is available in both right- and left-handed versions.
