AR-MINIFREAK49
The Arturia MiniFreak 49 is a powerful six-voice hybrid synthesizer that combines raw analogue character, versatile digital synthesis and expressive hands-on performance in a 49-key instrument. Building on the creative possibilities of the MiniFreak, this expanded model introduces a full-size semi-weighted keyboard with velocity and monophonic aftertouch, a multidimensional XYZ touch matrix and enhanced sound-shaping controls. Designed for electronic musicians, producers, sound designers and live performers, the MiniFreak 49 offers an inspiring platform for exploring everything from classic synthesizer sounds to experimental sonic textures.
At the heart of the MiniFreak 49 are two digital sound engines offering more than 30 oscillator modes. These include virtual analogue, FM, wavetable, granular, sample-based and physical modelling synthesis, with algorithms developed by Arturia, Mutable Instruments and Noise Engineering. Engine 2 can process Engine 1 for additional sound-design possibilities, while external audio can be routed through the voice architecture. Each of the six voices features an analogue state-variable filter and VCA, delivering rich analogue character and responsive tonal control. Audio-rate Filter FM from either engine provides further opportunities for aggressive, evolving and harmonically complex sounds.
The MiniFreak 49 introduces an expressive XYZ touch matrix that transforms sound editing and performance into an interactive experience. Musicians can slide across the surface and apply pressure to control multiple parameters simultaneously, creating dynamic changes in real time. The matrix also supports direct modulation assignment, swipeable preset browsing, visual feedback and Freak Control. With Macro, Gate and Spice functions, bipolar and vector layouts, and the ability to draw custom LFO shapes directly on the touch surface, the MiniFreak 49 makes sophisticated modulation intuitive and immediate.
Extensive modulation capabilities include an envelope, a cycling envelope and two user-customisable LFOs per voice. Voice Panning with selectable stereo spread algorithms adds movement and width to basses, pads and evolving textures. Three independent digital effects slots provide 13 algorithms each, including Self Vocoder and External Input Vocoder options. Expanded hands-on controls bring both sound engines and all three effects slots within easy reach, allowing musicians to shape, colour and transform sounds without interrupting their creative workflow.
The 49-note full-size semi-weighted keyboard offers comfortable two-handed performance, with velocity sensitivity and monophonic aftertouch for expressive control. Aluminium pitch and modulation wheels provide tactile performance control, while the intuitive 64-step sequencer includes four lanes of automated modulation. The Performance Arpeggiator adds octave jumps, ratchets, repeats and Spice & Dice functions for creating intricate rhythmic patterns and evolving musical ideas.
For studio production and live performance, the MiniFreak 49 offers comprehensive connectivity, including MIDI input, output and thru, USB-C, sustain pedal input, audio input, clock input and output, and stereo audio outputs. It is also compatible with polyphonic aftertouch information from supported controllers and digital audio workstations. The included MiniFreak V software provides full DAW integration, preset management and bidirectional hardware control, allowing sounds to move seamlessly between the physical synthesizer and a computer-based production environment.
With 350 factory presets, 162 user preset slots and 256 MB of sample and wavetable memory, the MiniFreak 49 provides a substantial foundation for musical exploration. Its refreshed preset library is colour-coded on the XYZ matrix for convenient navigation, while compatibility with original MiniFreak presets ensures access to an established collection of sounds. Combining extensive synthesis capabilities with expressive performance controls and modern connectivity, the Arturia MiniFreak 49 is a versatile instrument for musicians who want to push every sound further.
