The bass guitar is the most common form of bass that you will find. Usually a bass guitar will only have 4 strings. However, you can find all sorts of variations including 5 string and even 6 string basses out there. ----

The bass guitar stands out from a regular guitar because the necks are longer and the sound is located at the low end of the sound spectrum.

A lot of beginners mistakenly believe that bass is easier to learn than regular guitar, because the bass guitar only has 4 strings usually.

This is not exactly true. It might be easier to grasp certain beginner concepts on a bass guitar, but the bass guitar will be much harder to master than on a regular guitar.

Acoustic Bass Guitars

You can also play an acoustic bass. This will give you bass range sound on an acoustic instrument, so you do not have to worry about lugging around a heavy bass amp with you.

Acoustic basses are slightly less common than a regular bass guitar but they are still played around the world by bass players and acoustic bands.

Electric Bass

Most bass guitars are electric. There are lots of manufacturers that you can choose from in the Belfield Music store. These include Fender, Ibanez, Gibson, Epiphone, Yamaha, and Hofner. Just like with an electric guitar, these instruments create a weak electric signal on the pickup that is then powered through an amplifier to make music.

String Bass

The string bass, also called the double bass, is the original bass instrument. It is still a staple of the symphony orchestra and was used in popular jazz, country, bluegrass, and even rock and roll music before the bass guitar was invented.
